Bastyr in the Media September 21, 2012

Since our last update a couple of weeks ago, we've had a wide variety of media coverage on a number of different and interesting topics. Here's a quick look:

The grand opening of the Bastyr University California campus was big news -- so big that it was covered in two different regions: in the Seattle area by the Bothell Reporter and in Southern California by the San Diego Business Journal. It's a great feeling to be the first and only accredited school for naturopathic medicine in the state of California, and others seem equally enthusiastic about our arrival.

The Seattle Weekly had a nice piece on the best places to take kids to eat near the Burke-Gilman Trail, and the Bastyr University Dining Commons got a well-deserved mention. Yum!

Bastyr nutrition grad Lisa Harper ('10) was featured in the Redmond Reporter and Kirkland Patch. They both did stories about how Lisa is working with local farms to help harvest extra produce for food banks. Thanks for making a difference, Lisa!

We all know how great our University is, but it's nice when other, more objective parties, agree. TheBestSchools.org recently compiled a list of the top schools for acupuncture in the U.S., and Bastyr made the Top 5. Congrats to the AOM department!

And speaking of acupuncture, while this isn't a Bastyr media mention specifically, The New York Times had a blog post recently that touted a recent study they call "the most rigorous and detailed analysis of the treatment to date," that found acupuncture can ease migraines and arthritis and other forms of chronic pain. Wow!
