We Inspire Sustainable Building

Among the many campus tours that have taken place this summer, you might not have noticed the Aug. 3 group that spent most of its time in our year-old Student Village and adjacent medicinal herb garden.

With Facilities and Safety Director Daniel Clark in the lead, the tour consisted of sustainable leaders learning about our Student Village's innovative design and sustainable features as part of a LEED platinum building tour organized by King County and O’Brien and Co.

"Sustainability is an important issue to King County and Bastyr's core values are well aligned with ours as a community partner," says Patti Southard, program manager for GreenTools, King County’s green building program that last year granted Bastyr $25,000 to help further minimize environmental impacts.

"Creating sustainable green communities is one of our missions and we could not do it without organizations like Bastyr. We felt it was a good fit to show our county and city staff members the school because of this."

More recently, Green Tools honored the Student Village with a King County "Green Globe Award" and recognized Bastyr University as a "Leader in Sustainable Building" in its GreenTools Newsletter.
